La Casita Guest Guide
Best Beaches
Our island is world-famous for its pristine, white-sand beaches and crystal-clear turquoise waters. See our list of must to see beaches in TCI:
Grace Bay Beach
Pelican Beach (Our Favorite)
Leeward Beach alias Sunset Beach
- Long Bay Beach (Water Sports): This 5-mile-long beach is on the South-East side of Provo has shallow water, making it the perfect spot for learning windsurfing, kiteboarding, or horseback riding in the ocean (Provo Ponies).
- Sapodilla Bay & Taylor Bay (Family-Friendly): Located on the south side (about a 25-minute drive), the water is very shallow and clear, offering excellent shade from waves. Ideal for families with babies.
- Malcolm Beach & Split Rock (Adventure): For the more adventurous, we recommend this remote, secluded, and beautiful area on the west side. You might need a 4 wheel drive.
Beach Video: My daughter prepared a short video about our favorite beaches: Watch the video here
Taxi & Car rentals
We highly recommend renting a car to maximize your convenience and have the freedom to explore all the incredible parts of the island. It’s the best way to make the most of your stay and discover hidden gems.
- Rental Car Recommendations: Scooter Bob. Other excellent, quality options are Grace Bay Car Rentals and Rent A Buggy.
- Bikes/Scooters: If you prefer a more economical choice, you can rent bikes from Caicos Cycles. However, due to the hot weather, renting a scooter or car is generally a better and more comfortable option for long rides.
- Taxi Service: A taxi from the airport typically costs around $50 USD. A ride from La Casita to the touristic center will cost about $15 USD, see taxi fare rates below.
- TCI Taxi: Reuben is a funny local guy with lots of interesting stories +1 (649) 246-8190
• Our Favorite Taxi: We highly recommend Kelvin (649) 241-3576 (a friendly local guy. Another reliable good option is Sonnys Taxi +1 (649) 231-065
Snorkeling
Beach Snorkeling: The most popular snorkeling spots accessible directly from the beach are:
- Coral Gardens (starting just 15 feet from the sand) right front of the Coral Gardens Resort, it is quite popular you find friendly turtles, sting rays, and sometimes even eagle rays swimming close to you. Unfortunately the corals are not so healthy.
- Smith’s Reef. It is close to Turtle Cove marina. it is a Larger and healthier coral reef with 10-15 feet clear water and the corals grow from the bottom. If you lucky you might see Nurse sharks too.
- Barrier Reef Tours: The best snorkeling is always at the barrier reef, the barrier reef is 1 mile away from the shore; local tour companies offer one-hour snorkeling trips starting from around $100 per person. See some of my recommendations:
- Big Blue Collective (quality service and they take small groups)
- Caribbean Cruisin’ (good service and good price larger groups)
- Caicos Dream Tours (very popular, larger groups)
Scuba Diving
The wall diving around Turks and Caicos is amazing, often ranked as the 3rd best diving destination after the Great Barrier Reef. You can see a wonderful marine life and corals!
For diving, organized island tours, or boat tours, we recommend making a reservation, especially during the high season.
- Big Blue Collective: One of the best service providers taking small groups. Offers diving, snorkeling, kayaking and SUP paddle boarding, and eco-tours. Their head office is only 1 mile from us in Leeward Marina.
- Aqua TCI (Diving): They depart from South Side Marina, Small groups with very friendly staff.
- Dive Provo: Professional Company, often take larger groups. They have office in Salt Mills Plaza with a Dive Shop.
